Waldorf is for ALL children!
Waldorf Essentials stands with black families. Black lives matter to us. We realize that we have a lot to learn and we are open to learning it.
We want to share the resources and conversations that we use in our home.

Having difficult conversations
I am not perfect and I do not know it all. This is a very short video and can not do justice to this topic, but it is a beginning. I mention our video on being conscious about our choices, you can view that HERE.
So much to say...
I will begin with some resources that have helped us have the tough conversations. In truth, discussing race should NEVER be a tough conversation. Of course racism and it's systemic nature in our country (and indeed the world) is another matter. The inherent dignity of humanity should be an ongoing conversation in every home. We will all do it differently.

What Lies Between Us, Journal & Guide, Fostering First Steps Toward Racial Healing
This is a very short list, there are MANY others, feel free to drop us a note with your favorites and we will post them.
The videos below are ones that we have viewed this week and shared. A few have some swearing, but otherwise should be appropriate for most 13-14yo's. Education is power. Keep learning, keep loving and keep being open.
Beyond this, keep supporting minority owned businesses whenever possible. Discuss in your weekly family meeting how you can continue to improve your family culture. It isn't enough to say it once, make these conversations part of your life.
If you are a coach then continue the conversation with yourself and those on your team. There are many resources on this topic. One of the voices I like is Trudi Lebron.
And finally, Waldorf...
I have been approached many times over the years about the Euro-centric nature of Waldorf and how can I promote that culture. I don't. At Waldorf Essentials, we empower families to go deeper. As homeschoolers we have an opportunity to do things the school often can not. We can have the deeper conversations and connections about our own history and the history and culture of others. Waldorf is by design multi-cultural. It is our job as homeschool teachers to take it to the next place. Was Steiner and his work flawed? YES! Does that mean we toss out what was right? NO! That would be a supreme waste. Instead, have the discussions at home that are uncomfortable and your children will come to know and love others in the healing capacity that our world needs.
